On a cool spring morning, 7 members of Rochelle Park Troop 114 traveled to the Catskills for a weekend of adventure. After scoping out camp, 4 boys and 2 adults immediately went on a 6 mile hike along the Blackhead Range. The troop  went up Black Dome Trail into the col between Blackhead and Black Dome mountains, then turned west and went over Blackdome, Thomas Cole, and Camel’s Hump mountains to be picked up by a waiting assistant scoutmaster. Along the way the scouts learned skills that will count towards advancement and merit badges.

When they got back to camp at Trimont Scout Camp, they broke into teams to set up tents and prepare dinner. The menu for dinner consisted of chicken pot pie right out of an old Dutch oven. With their stomachs filled, the troop retired to “bed” (or at least that’s what they had to call their sleeping bags on the cold and hard ground). They say that the early bird gets the worm, but in our troop, all birds get at least one worm. Rising early the troop enjoyed eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. Sadly, the troop had to clean up and go home, but they did reap rewards from the trip.

“We all had a lot of fun and really want to go back,” said a scout in an exclusive interview. “I bet the future holds more fun and daring adventures for the scouts of Troop 114.”
